At our first hui of 2024, we launched the process towards creating our "Collabs". This saw us discussing the Kāhui Ako Achievement Challenges, and sharing our areas of inquiry in our individual schools. We then worked through a process to sort the large group into 3 smaller groups (Collabs) that support the achievement challenges.
This was a messy, organic process that saw everybody sharing, discussing, questioning, adding detail, and collaborating to make decisions about how best the collabs will work. Each participant played an important part in deciding which collab group they would be part of.
The purpose of the collabs will be to collaboratively build towards increased achievement for all ākonga, through discussions around areas of inquiry, sharing of research, collaborative projects etc. This set up will hopefully give us a bit of space for cross-pollination between the collab groups, and from there, further opportunities may evolve- eg. sharing of practice sessions open for any kaiako to attend.
We began by placing ourselves on the poutama relating to the Common Practice Model. As a group we are all aware of the CPM- and some have started to look at the model and supporting documents in their schools. It is safe to say that no-one, as yet, has fully unpacked the model or decided on clear next steps for their team or kura. This will likely be an area for collabs to investigate, moving forward.
The FIRST CUT - involved WSLTs sharing areas of inquiry and seeking common threads in terms of focus areas (Literacy/Mathematics) and/or shared threads of Connection, Equity, Engagement, and/or Enrichment)
The SECOND CUT saw us organically select areas of inquiry which will lend themselves to collaboration.
Each Collab group will work with one ASLT as facilitator, and will meet twice a term and "put our collective heads together" to share, learn, problem-solve and build kaiako capability and ākonga chievement across our kura.
