Our logo is an abstract design that is inspired by the legend of Ngake and Whātaitai.    Ngake and Whātaitai were brought down from the heavens by special karakia sent forth from the supernatural beings known as  Kāhui Maunga that inhabited Te Ika a Maui.  The Kāhui Maunga sent these Karakia forth from atop Pukeatua (Wainuiomata).

Ngake and Whātaitai are significant and important in connecting all our primary schools,  our Intermediate, Early Childhood Centres and colleges to this significant place we call Te Motu Kairangi - Te Whanganui a Tara.

Both Ngake and Whātaitai can be seen in this design, one remaining and one busting out, creating what we know now as Te Whanganui a Tara .   Two halves of the circle represent the two different personalities of each taniwha, who are and always will be still very much connected.  Please read the full beautiful legend by Ben Ngaia - Te Ātiawa to truly understand the significance of place and connection to Ngake and Whātaitai.
